ATLANTA, GEORGIA – Color My Outdoors is a week away from making history with the launch of the first-ever directory of outdoor organizations in the South led by People of Color. This innovative online platform will help identify and spotlight organizations and individuals uplifting the work of People of Color in outdoor recreation, conservation, and environmental advocacy. To mark this milestone and introduce Hotlanta to its pioneering nature work in the South, the nonprofit organization will host its launch party at Patagonia Beltline in Atlanta, Georgia. The celebratory doors open April 3 at 6:30 p.m. — an event designed to connect and inspire the colorful voices shaping the region’s outdoor industry.
“The Color My Outdoors directory isn’t just a list,” said Founding Executive Director Simone Adams, “It’s a movement. For too long, outdoor organizations led by People of Color have lacked representation and recognition. This directory is a powerful tool to change that narrative, creating pathways for connection, funding, and engagement in the outdoor space.” This groundbreaking directory – powered by a grant from the Cisco Foundation – is a first-of-its-kind resource built to amplify Black and Brown voices and organizations leading the way in outdoor education, adventure, sustainability, and advocacy. By bridging the gap between communities and the outdoor industry, the directory ensures greater visibility, collaboration, and access to nature for all in the Southeastern United States.
“We believe that the outdoors belong to everyone and acknowledge it may not always feel that way due to barriers of access,” said Patagonia Beltline’s Activism Lead Veronica Klucik. “The work Color My Outdoors does to reduce these barriers of access is inspiring and necessary in achieving a regenerative future that uplifts our communities and our planet. It is an honor to collaborate with them and to be a part of the launch of this pivotal directory launch.” The launch party will: introduce Color My Outdoors’ team and board officially to the Atlanta community; reveal this first-ever online directory for the South; and celebrate with supporters, partners, media, and the broader outdoor industry. Color My Outdoors invites outdoor enthusiasts, media, brands, and community members to attend this historic moment in outdoor advancements and representation.
